How to perform Umrah

From Madinah, your miqat is Dhul-Hulayfah (Masjid al-Miqat). Book your Umrah permit in the Nusuk app before you travel to Makkah.

    Book your permit in Nusuk

    Before you travel to Makkah, book your Umrah permit in the Nusuk app and pick the time you plan to start Tawaf. See the Nusuk guide for the steps.

    Ihram at the miqat

    Take a bath (ghusl) and, for men, wear the two white unstitched cloths. Women wear modest everyday clothing without niqab or gloves. Then make the intention for Umrah.

    لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ عُمْرَةً

    Labbayka Allāhumma ʿumrah

    Here I am, O Allah, for Umrah.

    Recite the Talbiyah

    Repeat the Talbiyah often (men aloud, women quietly) until you begin Tawaf. While in ihram, avoid perfume, cutting hair or nails, and marital relations. Men keep the head uncovered.

    لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ، لَبَّيْكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ لَبَّيْكَ، إِنَّ الْحَمْدَ وَالنِّعْمَةَ لَكَ وَالْمُلْكَ، لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ

    Labbayk Allāhumma labbayk, labbayka lā sharīka laka labbayk, inna al-ḥamda wa an-niʿmata laka wa al-mulk, lā sharīka lak

    Here I am, O Allah, here I am. You have no partner. All praise, blessings and dominion are Yours. You have no partner.

    Tawaf: seven circuits

    Start at the Black Stone, keeping the Kaʿbah on your left, and complete seven circuits. Say “Bismillāh, Allāhu Akbar” each time you pass the Black Stone. Men uncover the right shoulder during Tawaf.

    رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

    Rabbanā ātinā fi ad-dunyā ḥasanatan wa fi al-ākhirati ḥasanatan wa qinā ʿadhāb an-nār

    Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the Fire. (Between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone.)

    Pray two rakʿahs

    Pray two rakʿahs behind Maqam Ibrahim if there is space, or anywhere in the mosque. Then drink Zamzam water.

    Saʿi between Safa and Marwah

    Walk seven laps, starting at Safa and finishing at Marwah. Men walk briskly between the green lights. Make any duʿa you wish.

    Shave or trim

    Men shave the head (preferred) or trim it all over. Women cut a fingertip's length from the end of their hair. Your Umrah is complete. May Allah accept it.
